Visit Palestine

Between November 2021 and May 2023, Hamburg photographer Tim Oehler traveled to Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories several times. His motivation: impressions of this eternally contested region to collect, which is characterized by an intense attitude to life. Israelis here, Palestinians there. Civilian life and the military have always been closely intertwined. Moderates and extremists – on both sides of the conflict. He toured the country before the war that began with the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.

Oehler traveled off the typical tourist routes and sees this publication as an invitation to deal with the complex conflict beyond the well-known images and their narratives. Many of the impressive photographs are contemplative, wide-angle shots with which he succeeds in depicting the always fragile juxtaposition. What his color photographs show: It's about safety. About origins and homeland. About identity. “For more humanity” – this is what Tim Oehler prefaced the book with. A wish that is necessary today more than ever.
